| Age Group Competition |
|
Over 99 percent of USA Triathlon members are age group competitors. Article 3.2, Age Group Competition, defines how age is determined and also allows for weight class competition. The rule requires that all participants race by birth year rather than their age on race day. This means your race age will be the same for all sanctioned events for an entire calendar year. To find your race age, just subtract your year of birth from the current year. Participants may choose to race by weight class. Males must weigh 200 pounds or more and females must weigh 150 pounds or more in order to compete in the weight classes. Additionally, there are two age divisions for weight classes, 40 and over and 39 and under. Here's the rule: 3.2 Age Group Competition. a. All age group athletes must participate and compete in the age group division corresponding to the athlete's age on December 31 of the year of the event. b. Clydesdale/Athena Categories. The official minimum weight standard for this category is 200 pounds for men, 150 pounds for women, to be monitored by the local race director. The age breakdown will be 39 years of age and under and 40 years of age and over. Want to learn more about a specific rule? |
